22 BOOKS IN 2022 CHALLENGE

HAPPY NEW YEAR HOMIES!!
Every year, I make the same grandiose proclamation to start the new year.

THIS YEAR I WILL READ MORE BOOKS

Tikima, does the resolution last the entire year? HELL NAW. It fails and it fails miserably. I start the year with gumption by choosing lengthy business books that are hella boring and all of the gumption and excitement I began the new year with fade quickly. With that method, I would average approximately 3 books a year. 1 business book, 1 self-help book and lastly whichever manga my daughter is reading at the time. Yes, manga count too. It is all about balance homie.

This year I will NOT learn from my past failures and make the same grandiose proclamation...

THIS YEAR I WILL READ MORE BOOKS

(22 to be exact)

What will make this year different? You guys and a plan of course! MY online accountability homies will always have my back.

What is my plan you may ask? Well, here it is:

- Switch the genre often so I do not get bored
- Join a book club
- If the book does not spark joy, On To The Next One (I hope you read that in your best Jay Z voice)
- Force my daughter to participate in the challenge with me. Hell, I need at-home support too.
- Comprise a list of books I would like to read this year so I am not scrambling to find a book.
- Set aside quality time to read.

I don't know if I mention this before but... this is my third straight year attempting this challenge. Therefore, I have a running list of one day I will read books. I added that list to my current #22booksin2022 list and I am currently sitting on 40 books I would like to read in 2022!!! As a person who gets overwhelmed quickly, I feel good knowing I have options.

Below, I am sharing the list I would be choosing the 22 books I would like to read or reread in 2022 from.
CURRENTLY SPEAKING POSITIVITY INTO EXISTENCE.

- The Anomaly by Herve Le Tellier

- Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

- All About Love by Bell Hooks

- What Happened To You? by Bruce Perry and Oprah Winfrey

- Cheeky by Ariella Elovic

- The Language of Emotions by Karla McLaren

American Spy by Lauren Wilkinson

I first learned of the novel American Spy, in spring 2019 while browsing NPR's website. Wait, that sentence sounds hella millennial doesn't it? To make this book choice even more of a millennial's choice, Obama included American Spy on his 2019 summer reading list. That is when I said Flip Yeah this girl is going to read this book ASAP.

THREE YEARS LATER...

American Spy is still on my list but I will read this spy novel THIS YEAR!!!

- I Used To Have A Plan by Alessandra Olanow

- To Be Young, Gifted, and Black by Lorraine Hansberry

- Slavery By Another Name by Douglas Blackmon

- Common Wind by Julius S. Scott

- Demystifying Disability by Emily Ladau

-The 2000s Made Me Gay by Grace Perry

- Ace Of Spades By Faridah Abike-Iyimide

- Parable Of The Sower by Octavia Butler

-The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

-1984 by George Orwell

-His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie

-Killer Cults by Stephen Singular

-Genius & Anxiety by Norman Lebrecht

-Redhanded by Suruthi Bala and Hannah McGuire

-Calm The Fuck Down by Sarah Knight

-The Healing Path of Yoga by Nischala Joy Devi

-The Shack by WM. Paul Young

-Educated by Tara Westover

-The Soul Of Black Folk by W.E.B Dubois

-Lord Of The Flies by William Golding

-All Adults Here by Emma Straub

-Professional Troublemaker by Luvvie Ajayi Jones

-The Body Keeps Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk

-The Yoga Store Murder by Dan Morse

When a senseless murder happens at a popular athletic store, LIT-TER-LY down the street from where you currently live, you stop and say what the fuck. When a book is written about the tragedy, you read it. The Yoga Store Murder is based on the brutal murder of Jayna Murray in 2011 by a fellow co-worker. This appalling murder was etched into my memory forever.

*I know I spelled literally incorrectly, don't come from me, homies.

-Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead

-The Archer by Paulo Coelho
